The Pages Festival + Conference opened on Thursday, 13th March at 8:00pm with an interactive performance of interviews, video and music by celebrated folksinger Bob Bossin, with former Premier Bob Rae, to celebrate the launch of his new book Davy the Punk.
Joining Bossin are members of his legendary folk group Stringband: Marie-Lynn Hammond and Allan Soberman with Bob Rae on piano.
Bob Bossin takes centre stage with a heartfelt and richly anecdotal appreciation of his father, who was Toronto's “bookie's bookie” in the secret underworld in Toronto the Good in the 1930s and '40s. With songs, visuals and stories, Bossin evokes an era and a man who affected many people-especially his son.
"Davy the Punk is a thoroughly enjoyable and revealing romp through the historical underside of Toronto the Good. Bob Bossin brings a performer's skill to the tall but true tales in what is, ultimately, his family's story.” —Lilian Nattel, author of Web of Angels and The River Midnight
"Only a handful of song writers have created a body of work that constitutes a portrait of our country. Stan Rogers did that. So did Gordon Lightfoot. And so does Bob Bossin.” —Stuart McLean
